Meet Dee
Dee Glazer is an artist, writer, and mom working in the Philadelphia area. She received her BA from the University of Richmond in 2013 in Art and Philosophy. She received her MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 2016 with a focus on drawing and theory. Dee has worked as a freelance graphic designer and writer until Canva and AI made her job irrelevant. During the pandemic, she got cabin fever and started a tropical houseplant business, which she ran until her daughter was born in 2024. Dee is now a full-time mom and artist, working on a collection of poems, prose, and drawings.
My WorkI have a compulsion to draw and write. Whether it comes from my inner sense of anxiety or my habit of overthinking the mundane is unclear. What is clear is that I need to do it, and it is how I make sense of my place in the world. I think of my work as a form of journaling; my drawings are an archive of my thoughts. My favorite place is within the pages of a Moleskine notebook, cluttered with the raw sketches and prose of my pen. Sometimes the work is lofty and esoteric; other times it’s just about wanting more eyeballs so I could stay up later. I think it needs both of these poles to be meaningful.
I’m working on a collection of drawings and poems called “I Wish I Were a Slug. I think of the project as an illustration of existential dread with a touch of whimsy. It explores themes of isolation, the body, and identity through a philosophical and humorous lens.
